Common scams to watch out for

Fraudsters are becoming more convincing. Here are the most common scams circulating right now.

Impersonation scams

Someone pretends to be your bank, HMRC, or a trusted company to trick you into sending money or sharing details.

Romance scams

A fake relationship is built online, then money is requested — often urgently and with an emotional story.

Job offer scams

Fake job ads ask you to receive and transfer money — making you an unknowing money mule.

Purchase scams

You pay for something online — often at a great price — and it never arrives. The seller disappears.

Phishing messages

Fake texts or emails with links that steal your login details or install software on your device.

Investment scams

Promises of high returns with little risk — often crypto or foreign exchange. If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

Stay safe

What Suits Me will never do

Knowing how we communicate means you can spot straight away when something isn’t us.

We will never

  • Ask for your full PIN, password or one-time passcode over the phone or by message
  • Ask you to move money to a “safe account” for security reasons
  • Pressure you to make a payment quickly or urgently
  • Send someone to your home to collect your card or cash
  • Ask you to download remote access software onto your device

If you’re ever unsure

  • Hang up the call, wait five minutes, then call us back using the number on our website or app
  • Don’t click links in texts or emails — go directly to our website or open the app
  • Talk to someone you trust before sending any money
  • Remember: it’s always okay to say no and take your time
Report it
